Join Yongala Dive for a unique experience

We aim to provide certified divers with a unique adventure trip to the historic S.S.Yongala wreck, so bring your sense of adventure, passion to explore and eagerness to learn about the tragic history while you witness marine life matched by few other places on the face of this planet.

The ‘Yongala Dive experience’ takes you by 4WD transfer to the beach launch followed by a fast 30 minute boat trip, amazing diving with small groups, experienced dive staff and the day finished off with an Aussie BBQ !

8:10am – Dive Briefing


8:30am – 4WD to beach for launch
Fast 30 min ride to Yongala (launch sometimes via tractor)

9:45 am – S.S.Yongala Wreck
2 dives – no restrictions on dive times – enjoy !!
I hour surface interval – yummy snacks, fruit, cordial/water (hot drinks/soups in winter)


2:00pm  Return to Dive Centre for BBQ lunch
Showers, logbooks, dive training paperwork, Photo Slideshow (purchase photo’s, t-shirts, merchandise)

3:00pm – All over – transfers to Ayr (for 3:25 pm bus)

NB: Schedule is a guide only, times may change due to weather, tides, number of trips per day. Schedule commences 30 mins earlier on 2 trip days.

What diving experience is required?

The Yongala wreck is as an intermediate dive site, it can be subject to changing conditions i.e. wave height and currents, therefore we need to ensure our divers are comfortable in the water

This dive is for certified divers onlyMinimum Open Water certification
Minimum of 6 logged dives
Divers with less than 20 dives will be accompanied by a PADI Dive Instructor
Any inexperienced divers who have not dived in the last 6 months must take a refresher prior to diving the yongala (due to the depth and conditions)
OW diversMust complete deep dive training during the 1st dive if not previously completed (extra cost applies)
Will be accompanied by a PADI Dive Instructor
Accredit the deep dive training towards the advanced open water course by purchasing the manual and completing the PADI ‘Deep’ Adventure dive theory with the Instructor
Advanced divers and higherWill be provided with one of our experienced guides at no extra cost
Experienced divers may be able to dive with their buddy after an orientation dive

What conditions should we expect ?

The wreck is located in open ocean with no protection from the reef. surface conditions can sometimes be choppy and moderate currents may be experienced. It is advised to take seasickness medication before departure as we are unable to provide refunds due to seasickness.

No refunds will be made if we are unable to find your certification and you do not have your dive card
PaperworkALL Divers must complete a Liability and waiver Form, divers undertaking dive training must also complete a Medical Statement. Medical conditions which may prevent you from diving (inc. prescription medication) or any ‘YES’ answers on this statement MUST be discussed with our staff prior to booking, no refunds will be given on the day if you are unable to dive.
Pick-up’s from AyrFree pick-up’s are available from Ayr Bus Stop at 12:55 and 3:25pm
Pick-up’s on the morning of your dive will incur a $10 fee.
These MUST be booked 24 hours in advance, we are 16 km’s from Ayr and do not meet every bus
If the boat is delayed for any reason we cannot guarantee you will meet your bus connection in Ayr
