Who can take a PADI Open Water Course..?OW page

Anybody who wants to learn to dive and is aged 12 years and above, our 3 day Open Water Course is the perfect way to open up a whole new world!  You will learn the basics of scuba diving with one of our experienced PADI Dive Instructor’s.

We ensure you are trained to a high standard and are comfortable diving at the maximum depth recommended for your experience level (18 metres), so you are well qualified for future dives. Once you have become a certified diver a whole new world of underwater adventures is open to you.

There is also a PADI Discover Scuba diving program for those who just want to try scuba diving without taking the full course.

What will we do..?

Just Certified Open Water DiversThroughout the course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You will also earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification that is recognized worldwide. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives, knowledge development sessions and by making four open water dives.

  • Self-study – you read the PADI OW Manual and complete the theory including knowledge reviews and watch the OW DVD in your own time prior to course commencement
  • Evening theory session (if required) – with your Instructor to re-enforce your knowledge including quizzes
  • 1 day – Confined water pool sessions to learn the skills you have read about/watched on the DVD and complete the exam
  • 2 days diving – 1 day shore based, 1 day on the GBR to put the skills you have learnt in the pool into practice in the ocean.

Once I am a PADI Open Water Diver, can I dive the Yongala..?

Yes… you will still need to make the Deep adventure dive as part of your first dive on the Yongala, during the dive you will be looked after by a highly experienced PADI instructor who is also an expert on diving the S.S. YONGALA wreck.

When should I book this course..?

To make sure we can fit you in and you get the best valve out of the course, please contact us a.s.a.p. We can go through options and fit in around your timescale if we have enough notice. You will need time to read the manual and complete knowledge reviews and watch the DVD prior to commencing the course.

An Australian Standard Dive Medical (AS4005.1) is required by law to learn to dive in Queensland. We suggest this medical is arranged prior to commencement. We can advise you on this if you require assistance. This form will need to be completed for the medical – RSTC Medical Statement

PADI eLearning Courses

Can I learn online ? Yes. PADI eLearning enables you to complete your theory on-line via your internet connection, in your own time without attending any Classroom sessions. Once your theory has been completed you simply email us and we can arrange the pool and open water sessions.

What is the cost and what is included?

Course Duration: 3 days (with PADI eLearning completed in advance via self study)
