Who can take the PADI Advanced Open Water Course?
Anybody who holds an Open Water Diver certification (PADI or equivalent) and is 15 years or above can complete this course, it is the next step in continuing your dive education and is designed to help you build your confidence and increase your skills.
What you need to know about the course ?
The advanced course is comprised of 5 Adventure Dives – a PADI requirement is that two of the dives undertaken MUST be the Deep and Underwater Navigation. All of the dives for this course will be conducted on the dive site of the S.S. YONGALA. (We reserve the right to conduct the Navigation dive at an alternative location if conditions do not permit us to conduct this on the wreck). The course is an “in-water” course, theory is conducted in the student’s own time. You will need to collect your PADI Adventures in Diving Manual the day before your course and complete the necessary knowledge reviews. To avoid carrying a manual, please ask us about our PADI Advanced eLearning access pass, this has a digital manual you can reference on-line on any computer.
Which adventure dives are offered in the course ?
At Yongala Dive we offer the following adventure dives for you to choose from:
- Deep (required dive) – click here for more details
- Navigation (required dive) – further training on use of a compass and the natural environment to assist you in navigating
- Wreck – learn techniques to navigate on a wreck, identify and avoid hazards and distinguish different parts of a wreck
- Boat – we will get you hands on with the boat inc. how to set up gear in a small/confined space to get you in the water first
- Enriched Air (Nitrox) – PADI’s most popular adventure dive (check out the specialty here)
- Aware Fish ID – discover different types of marine life and how they interact with each other
- Naturalist – identify different species of marine life and learn about their behaviors
- Underwater Digital Photography – a picture paints a thousand words…. capture your ‘Yongala’ experience forever
Our Instructor’s are happy to discuss the individual requirements for these adventure dives, it is important to us for you to get the most value out of your PADI Advanced open water course by completing the dives that really interest you. We highly recommend you opt for the Enriched Air adventure dive, for the following reasons:
- Advanced Course can be completed in 2 days (5 dives on the Yongala)
- By diving Enriched Air (Nitrox) you will get more bottom time during your second dive each day on the wreck due to its depth
- It is the first of 2 dives required to complete the PADI Enriched Air specialty course
I am a PADI Open Water Diver, can I dive the Yongala..?
Yes… you will need to make the Deep adventure dive as your first dive on the Yongala, during the dive you will be looked after by a highly experienced PADI instructor who is also an expert on diving the S.S.YONGALA shipwreck.
When should I book this course and how long does it take ?
To get the best valve out of the course and to avoid disappointment you should give us plenty of notice, given plenty of time we can usually fit around your timescale. The course will be completed over two days diving on the Yongala wreck. You complete the reading and knowledge reviews in your own time, preferably prior to your course.
