November – Black Manta

Monday, December 13th, 2010

The Yongala has been showing some of her finest this month, with an absolutely amazing visit from a black Manta Ray getting cosy and cuddly with divers including our Director. This made for some excellent photos and video footage as the Manta Ray came close to clipping a few cameras and divers. The warm waters have caused a proliferation of fish life with balls of bait fish coating the wreck and schools of giant trevally hunting and Maori wrasse being visually spectacular. Although the weather hasn’t been as perfect as it usually is this time of year but divers have been getting in the water smiling and out beaming.

August – Whale Season

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Its not often that you can say you dived with whales although some divers on the wreck last weekend had that amazing experience of a whale cruising past them underwater. With visibility around the 20m and rays, sharks and heaps of schooling fish it doesnt get much better. All the divers were pumped

Start of 2010…

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Water is at it’s warmest 28*C, weather conditions vary at this time of year so sea sickness tablets recommended. Marine life great for the little and the big stuff, Mantas sighted once a week, guitar sharks and turtles most days, occasional visits from the bull and oceanic black tip sharks. Still thousands of bait fish, swarming the wreck with hungry Giant Trevally and Jacks chasing the little guys.

September News

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The conditions are amazing at the moment – the water is warming up, the wind has dropped and the visibiliy is 10-15 metres. Bait fish are covering the wreck like a blanket in their 1000′s – the whole wreck seems to move as they scatter from the giant trevally and maori wrasse hunting in schools.   Turtles are enjoying baking in the sun on the surface, while the large blotched rays are hanging out in the sand.   Join our fan page to see more photo’s and make your own comments…….

Mantas galore

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

We’ve had brilliant weather and wildlife the last couple of months. Many manta interactions, curious shark rays and baifish balling the wreck with many predators feasting. We are running full every day so book early so you don’t miss out. We’ve started 2 trips a day on wednesdays and weekends and are still turning away people.

Groupers Everywhere

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Very good diving recently, extremely active wildlife with up to 4 huge Qld grouper patrolling either the stern or the bow daily.

Had some magnificent glass out days, and one day had zero! tidal movement (1 tide all day).

Check the photo (bit blurry), couple of grouper off bow with a turtle swimming down from top right

 Groupers on bow

You should be here!!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Times are good out at the wreck , blue water, negligible tides, and no wind.

Spots are available most days, if you’ve thinking coming, now’s the time.

Floods, no problems

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

The flooding last week closed the highways but the diving was great. Calm conditions and 15m plus visibility. The Qld groupers and rays are particularly active.

Sea Cucumber Attacks Shark!

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Not really, but there is so much life down there all the animals have to share space, and the Tawny shark got in the way. Massive schools of baitfish have brought even more life to the dive site, light winds of 5-10 kts that we are experiencing presently make the day even better.
